DESCRIPTION:Mr. Diallo Wallace\, will be speaking about the legacy that our Military Veterans’ have established for themselves in defense of the United States. Mr. Wallace flew helicopters for the United States Navy and deployed for 10 months in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Noble Eagle after the events of 9-11. Mr. Wallace has over 25 year’s experience as a Naval Aviator and Department of Defense Aerospace Engineer working on space systems. He is a California State Credentialed Teacher and has created a business providing K-12 online engineering courses to charter schools. His academic achievements are undergraduate degrees in Electronics Engineering Technology\, Mathematics\, and Master’s Degrees in Astronautical Engineering and Program Management. He is currently completing a Ph.D. in Engineering Education. Mr. Wallace’s passion is bringing students to an understanding of science/engineering through the application of mathematics.

SUMMARY:La Brea Tar Pits Field Trip (6th-8th grade)
DESCRIPTION:Discover the wonders of the ice ages as you discover the tar pits in Los Angeles. \nMiddle schoolers join us for a tour of the museum\, discovery tour for 6-8th grade. Right in the heart of L.A. sits the world’s most powerful gateway to the Ice Age. The asphalt seeps at La Brea Tar Pits are the only active urban fossil dig site in the world. Plants and animals from the last 50\,000 years are discovered here every day. Outside\, you can watch excavators carve fossils out of the asphalt. Inside the museum at La Brea Tar Pits (established in 1977 as the George C. Page Museum)\, our staff prepares these discoveries in the see-through Fossil Lab. You’ll see the final result in our exhibitions: extraordinary saber-toothed cats\, mammoths\, dire wolves\, and mastodons\, as well as the tiny\, but scientifically significant\, microfossils of insects\, plants\, mammals\, and reptiles. The Tar Pits help us understand life around Wilshire Boulevard long before we got here\, and what lies ahead as climate and habitats continue to change. \nThis tour includes the tar pits and the museum. It is open to middle school families. iLEAD learners are free with an RSVP. All other participant’s tickets are $7.00 for children (3-12) 12.00  for students\, 15.00 for adults\, must be paid at the door. Children 2 and under are free.

DESCRIPTION:ColorTerrae is a geoscience and watercolor lesson rolled into one. Learn watercolor painting technique and science  at the same time. Focus on having a fun time\, developing art skills\, and learning about the continually changing Earth. This event is for learners in 5th grade and older. \nRich Magner is an educator\, geoscientist\, and adventurer who loves to blend learning styles and creativity. Mr. Magner graduated from the University of Michigan in Education as an undergraduate and earned his Master of Science while at Mississippi State University. Whether climbing\, caving\, hiking\, or searching for rocks\, there’s always a camera\, sketchbook and paint set close by. \nThis is a virtual event\, and the supplies needed for this event will be mailed to you ahead of time. Tickets are $35 (this includes the price of supplies) and only learner funds will be accepted (no credit cards please). Please register each learner that will be participating. Tickets will become available October 6 at 10:00am.

DESCRIPTION:The LA Dodgers Clubhouse Tour is a walking tour through Dodger Stadium. Students will learn about the history of the Dodgers and Dodger Stadium. This exclusive tour allows fans a one-of-a-kind opportunity to peek inside the Dodger Clubhouse. The Clubhouse Tour will contain all elements of the Dodger Stadium Tour PLUS: Visit to the Dodger Bullpen\, look at the Dodger weight room and batting cage\, a peek inside the Dodger Clubhouse\, and stop in the Dodger Interview Room. \nAges 4 and up require a ticket. \nTickets are $37 and will become available February 4th at 10am.
