Curriculum Corner – LibriVox and Overdrive

Exploring Curriculum is a series covering the core academic subjects for grades TK-8. Here are some of the past subjects covered:

LibriVox and Overdrive are free resources that your learners can use for reading books. Listening to a book is enjoyable while your family is driving, doing chores and/or before bedtime.

LibriVox is an amazing resource for families who enjoy listening to audiobooks. LibriVox has free public domain audiobooks available to download and listen to for free. For most books, there are several readers to choose from, so be sure to preview them before choosing which reader is a good fit for your family.

There is also a LibriVox Audiobooks App you can download, which makes listening to books easy. The app allows you to pause, rewind and fast forward books.

Overdrive is an app you can use to check out digital and audiobooks from any library for which you have a library card. The books are automatically removed from your account after they are due back to the library. The best part about using Overdrive is that there are no late fees! You can read and/or listen to the books with a Kindle or straight from the Overdrive app.

Try one of these resources with a book on your child’s reading list!
