Resources

There are four domains of English Language Development: speaking, reading, listening and writing. There are many strategies and activities that can be implemented at home to have learners practice their speaking skills.
Being able to speak English fluently is critical to our ELLs’ success. We always see a number of learners – from every cultural background – who are too shy to speak up or to answer a question, even when they have the answer. Strategies from this Scholastic article will help learners improve their language development in a supportive, encouraging way. Some ideas include modeling reading through focused read alouds and asking them to retell stories. More resources that can help with the speaking domain can be found on our Hub page.
