What is the difference between an IEP and a 504?

A 504 accommodation plan is a general education document that acknowledges a learner’s disability and outlines any accommodations they might need to access their education. An IEP is similar in that it will contain accommodations for a learner, however an IEP is appropriate when the learner’s disability is impacting academic progress so significantly that they meet eligiblity criteria for special education support services.
